The Human Centipede trailer makes my skin crawl

April 5th, 2010 in movie

Ever since I first heard of “The Human Centipede: First Sequence“, I wondered how it would turn out.
Now, they released the first trailer, and it looks awesome(ly gruesome)!

And it looks like they are already planning the sequel “The Human Centipede: Full Sequence

The Human Centipede

The Human Centipede

This is the plot:

During a stopover in Germany in the middle of a carefree road trip through Europe, two American girls find themselves alone at night when their car breaks down in the woods. Searching for help at a nearby villa, they are wooed into the clutches of a deranged retired surgeon who explains his mad scientific vision to his captives’ utter horror. They are to be the subjects of his sick lifetime fantasy: to be the first to connect people, one to the next, via their gastric system, and in doing so bring to life ‘the human centipede’.

[movie] FFFnights2010 review – Senritsu meikyû 3D / The Shock Labyrinth 3D

März 20th, 2010 in movie

The Shock Labyrinth 3D was the one film I thought I shouldn’t miss at this years Fantasy Film Fest Nights. A horror movie. By Ju-On director Takashi Shimizu. In 3D!

The Shock Labyrinth 3D follows a group of teenagers dealing with the sudden return of a friend who went missing a decade ago. When the friend falls ill, they take her to a hospital but end up trapped in a labyrinthine haunted house.

Well. What can I say. It seems that Shimizu has lost his bite. The story is lame, confusing, and just plain boring. The “actors” can’t act at all. (I hated the lead “actor” who seemed to have only one look on his face no matter whether he was sad, scared, horrified or whatever) And the lousy, low quality 3D effect is making it worse. I wanted to leave the theater a few times. But having paid 10 Euros for the ticket and expecting suspense and horror somewhere in the film, I stayed. 90 minutes of my life wasted.

Opinion: 1 / 10 – Lame, boring, sad. Do not watch under any circumstances.

[movie] FFFNights2010 Review – Survival of the Dead

März 19th, 2010 in movie

George A. Romero released another movie of his “Dead” series. For me a must see, even though I I disliked “Land of the Dead“.

Survival of the Dead tells the story of Plum Island – a refuge whose isolation allows two powerful families to maintain a semblance of order in the wake of the zombie holocaust. But as the inhabitants slowly die off, the two clans become sharply divided: The O’Flynns believe that the undead must be destroyed without exception, while the Muldoons insist that afflicted loved ones be kept “alive” until a cure is found. Into this situation wander a small group of National Guard troops who have decided to strike out on their own in an effort to survive.

I didn’t like Survival that much. The characters are not very interesting, some of their actions are just plain dumb. The acting isn’t good, either. And I just don’t like Romeros idea about intelligent zombies.

Opinion: 5 / 10 – Mediocre movie about a zombie outbreak.

[movie] James Camerons Avarhontas

Januar 5th, 2010 in movie

I saw Avatar recently and despite all the negative stuff I read about the story, I have to say I really liked it. Yes, ok, the story isn’t original like that of many other movies, but the whole package was just great.

Nevertheless, after I found this revamped Pocahontas script online, I thought I just had to share this. Hilarious. And strangely, absolutely true!

[movie] FFF2009 Review – Mutants

August 22nd, 2009 in movie

French horror has a renaissance. Some of the movies that came out in the last few years have been really nice, so I thought I should check out the latest addition to the genre.

A virus has spread through the population. Victims mutate and become cannibals. There is only one hope, a military station called NOAH. Sonia, a medic and her friend Marco have to stop at an abandoned housing complex in the middle of the forest because Marco has a gunshot wound and their car is out of gas…

Mutants feels like a movie that is cut’n'pasted from different zombie movies. The characters are shallow, the plot unmotivated. A friend of mine often says “the trailer is better than the movie will be”. That is the case with Mutants as well. A few exciting scenes, and unfortunately, that’s it…

Opinion: 4/10 – Nothing new, kinda slow paced, maybe something for the hardcore Zombie-Fan

[movie] FFF2009 Review – Bakjwi / Thirst

August 21st, 2009 in movie

Highly anticipated new movie by Korean star director Chan-wook Park, Thirst is a must see at the Fantasy Film Fest 2009. Park will even visit the screening in Berlin this weekend.

Priest Sang-hyeon wants to do good by enlisting in a program researching a cure for a deadly virus. Upon the verge of death, he receives a blood transfusion and is mystically healed. After returning home to the convent, he discovers that he has to drink blood in order to keep death at bay. As if that wouldn’t be enough to strain his beliefs, he falls in love with the wife of a childhood friend, and soon finds himself on close terms with the seven deadly sins.

Excellent cinematography, a good story and a talented crew put together. From beginning to end, I liked watching the movie and couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

Opinion: 9/10 – A highly unusual Vampire tale, not for the faint of heart, but also not for gore fanatics.

[movie] FFF2009 Review – Carriers

August 20th, 2009 in movie

Carriers was the opening movie of the Fantasy Film Fest 2009.

The plot sounded nice, and I even though the new Captain Kirk, Chris Pine, is on the cast, I’m gonna give it a try.

Four young people drive along back roads towards the ocean to hide from a worldwide epidemic, a virus that kills those who become infected. After their car breaks down, they have to take a father with his infected child with them because they need the father’s car. Of course one of the four gets infected because of the child…

Starting strong, the movie can’t deliver what it promised to be. The potential is there, but the Pastor brothers just couldn’t keep the suspense up. Instead of sitting on the edge of the seat, the watcher becomes bored as more and more people are simply left behind by the still healthy cast when they get infected. The last third of the movie is barely worth watching…

Opinion: 5/10 – Not horror, not thriller, not much of anything. May appeal to people watching mainstream movies.
